UCSD Mesa Nueva Graduate and Professional Student Housing
San Diego CA
Linking Campus Life
COMMUNITY AND IDENTITY
A collection of mixed-use residential buildings shapes and connects a network of outdoor gathering spaces designed in response to the site’s natural character. Shared amenities, both indoors and outdoors, encourage interaction among residents while supporting a wide range of lifestyles, preferences, and daily routines.
A NEW APPROACH TO DENSITY
The project expands campus housing capacity in a way that remains sensitive to the surrounding environment and broader community context. Created in response to strong demand for affordable graduate student housing, the development incorporates adaptable micro-living concepts that balance efficiency, comfort, and long-term campus growth objectives.
DESIGNED FOR LONG-TERM PERFORMANCE
The building systems and structural approach prioritize durability, occupant comfort, and operational efficiency. Features such as thermal mass, enhanced acoustic privacy, passive cooling strategies, high-performance envelope systems, and on-site renewable energy contribute to overall sustainability goals. The master plan also establishes a framework that can support future phases of environmentally responsible campus expansion. The sustainable landscape enlists a native and drought-tolerant plant palette to conserve water while celebrating the regional character.
