Tenaya Lake Area Plan
Yosemite National Park CA
The Lake of Shining Rocks
RESTORING NATURAL PROCESSES
Situated at approximately 8,300 feet in the Sierra Nevada, Tenaya Lake is among Yosemite’s most visited destinations, valued for its dramatic alpine setting and convenient access from Tioga Road. This restoration initiative combines long-range planning with phased construction efforts aimed at improving visitor circulation and safety while safeguarding sensitive shoreline, meadow, and wetland environments.
IMPROVING THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE
Early phases of the project focused on organizing and strengthening public access through the introduction of new trail connections, interpretive elements, defined gathering areas, and universally accessible pathways, including elevated boardwalks designed to blend with the rugged lakeside landscape while minimizing ecological disturbance. Over time, the restoration strategy is intended to support the long-term health of the Tenaya Lake ecosystem, ensuring that future visitors can continue to experience the site’s unique character and natural beauty.
